I finally got to see Taiyo Matsumoto’s exhibition at The Japan Foundation. His line work is amazing, I really wished they had more of his work. But of course nothing is ever enough when its really good. I would recommend people to check out this exhibition If you’re around the area, it will be on display until June 7th.

So I sent an email to the guy who created a bunch of Kazuo Umezu-inspired merchandise at http://www.otooto22.com, which you can purchase if you live in Japan. I simply asked if it wasn’t possible for them to ship to other countries as well; and he pretty much replied instantly saying it wasn’t possible, but they were willing to look into it. Which was the standard polite answer I’d expect from a Japanese person. But then he told me he was meeting up with Umezu-san soon, and asked if I wanted to relay a message to him. I was like “whuuuuuuut”. Kind of unsure what to say, I just told him to tell Umezu-san that his fans are rooting for him from all over the globe; and that it’d be really nice if some more of his works would get published in English.

So today I got an e-mail back basically saying that Umezu-san said “THANKS!” back, and that the guy from the Otooto22 site, a person from the publisher, and Umezu-san discussed the possibility of bringing over more works. Pretty neat, I thought.

昨日、楳図先生と会い、頂いたメッセージをお伝えしたら大変喜ばれておりました。
「ありがとう！とお伝え下さい」と言われましたので、メールしました。

出版社の人もいたので、私と楳図さんとで「14歳」と「わたしは真悟」の英語版を出さないとね！
とお話ししました。

楳図先生の作品がより多くの方に読まれるようになるといいですね！

Review: Mondo’s Evil Dead 2 & Army of Darkness Movie Posters

It’s happened again, people. Just when I got comfortable with the knowledge that, huzzah for me, I’ve made it through an entire week and only bought one poster, Mondo goes ahead and releases two must-have prints. In a Sophie’s Choice-like conundrum, I have to decide between Randy Ortiz’s Army of Darkness and Jason Edmiston’s Evil Dead 2. To those who say, “just get both!” I respond, “easier said than done.” Two great prints, two amazing artists, and two incredible films. Damn you, Mondo! Also, thanks for the posters.

This rare gem of a movie tells the tale of a horrific cyberpunk future where real food is a luxury and proper nutrition is a privilege. The heartless corporation NutroCorp ensures that the public only gets the bare minimum of vitamins every day, leading many of the underclass to illegally download food through matter replicators. These downloads - known as ‘Hunger Crimes’ - are punishable by brianwipe and relocation, the sentences carried out by members of the Food Protection Agency, also known as ‘the Pizza Police.’

The story begins when Luco (Van Damme) and Ryot (Lundgren) are caught in the middle of a food bust on some illegal downloaders; Luco meets a gorgeous young woman (Barbeau) and breaks the law by letting her escape, causing friction between her and Ryot. The drama builds as Luco and Ryot end up fighting their own company after they discover a terrible secret, and the climax of the film is marked by a bloody gun battle in the middle of the NutroCorp food factory floor. A rare gem, Pizza Force will round out any die-hard action fan’s video library.
